Alas, it didn’t hit the mark!

The fish slices were stale. This isn’t a plate of salted fish fried rice, and even if it is, the fish is not of salted fish state yet. I hate eating fish, and so I’m especially sensitive to fish. I can taste the slightest bit of unfreshness the moment I see a slice of fish.

There’s bean sprouts in the fried rice. I can’t quite recall when I did I ever had seafood fried rice with bean sprouts. No squid, no prawns. What a disappointment.There’s plenty of leek though.

I’d rather spend the $3 gorging down pancakes.

A $3 rip off tom yum soup with rice, bought from the stall behind the original avocado juice stall. The soup was spicy but lacks that tinge of sourness. Seafood tom yum soup? 2 tiny overcooked prawns, couple slices of fish, 6 stamp-sized pieces of veggies, 2 fishballs, 2 slices of mushy tomatoes, and there you go. There’s many bits of weird stuff in there though. This thing which looks like dried pessimon slices (many of them!), a slice of lemon, leek, ginger…

I wonder if tom yum is supposed to be cooked with such stuff… Unsatisfying meal, if I hadn’t had that mug of avocado juice.

Somehow just realised that Ghim Moh market has at least 3 stalls now selling the same thing- chee cheong fun & dim sum. Wanton mee is less of a competition then. Reckon there isn’t much competition even.

Haven’t get to tried the Pontian wanton mee and thus a comparison between the two isn’t going to take place here. But the pleasant surprise is the price of this plate of wanton mee. $2!! It’s freaking cheap!!

Then again, there’s only2 wantons, 5 slices of char siew, and I finished the noodles within 9 mouths. So there is a correlation between price and quantity of food then… No pieces of lard, no additional sauces unless you request, noodles were tad under cooked.

This Oyaku don set came with cold pumkin, green tea and miso soup. The soup was tad salty, the order took slightly long to arrive, and the meat wasn’t very flavourful. In fact, portion is tad small… Quite a disappointment.I don’t think I’ll go there unless I have to.

Ooh!! I love it!

Tried it out of my nostalgia for the Clementi Ah Balling. This stall faces the kopitiam and the POSB atm. It’s the last stall of the row, look left look right.. you can’t miss it.

There’s sesame, peanuts, yam, and red bean flavour for the Ah Balling, which are actually glutinous rice balls with fillings. Choices for the soup includes peanut, almond or ginger base.

The layer of glutinous rice flour, which makes the ‘skin’ of the ah balling, is thin but strong. It doesn’t break even after much stirring and teasing. Sink your teeth into one ah balling, and the filling oozes out warmly immediately. Feels like the way your mensus flows out, warm, wet, slow and that sensation. Ok gross analogy, but you get the idea..

The filling’s not too sweet, and though it is almost as viscous as it can get, you can still taste some tiny chunks of the peanut and that crunch is what gives it the extra points. The peanut soup base isn’t too sweet either.

Definitely not a bowl of dessert which is too sweet til its sickening. Best of all, it is only $1.50! Go greedy next time, try the $2 a bowl for 6 ah ballings and ask for combination of all flavors!

Fork out $8 or so and you can get yourself a pleasant looking, chewy chocolate brownie which comes with bits of nuts.

Not the best in town, but certainly good enough to quench that thirst for chocolatey desserts.

I found the auntie cooking and her male helper surprisingly familiar, but I can’t quite put their faces to a location. $3 gets you a plate of sticky, gooy, plain and tad oily fried prawn noodles.It’s not those dry kind of fried prawn noodles, and neither is it those ‘wet’ kind. Somehow it was just ‘in the middle’ but not ‘just nice’ to please those who like the extremes.

By the time I was 75% done for the dish, I was pretty sick of it. But I finished it up still because it’s not that bad till it’s something you’d stop eating despite not wanting to waste food. Surprisingly, there’s no lard pieces, no sotong, no tiny strips of pork.

Whatever the case is, the author for the article is probably right. The article made no mention of the claypot noodles but sang praises for the fish noodles. If it had, the author’s probably lying.

Such a disappointment! The claypot noodles cost $3.50 but for that price, I can cook better instant noodles and with more ingredients too. In fact, the claypot contained nothing but couple strands of yee mee, 3 strands of vegetables, 2 prawns,  2 pieces of fish, 1 crab stick, and 3/4 pot of plain water. The soup was bland! I bet they cook this claypot noodles the way I cook my instant noodles. But sorry, my instant noodles taste much better than that anytime.

Tried this pork chop set because I had a craving for western food, pork chop more specifically, and it so happened that the supposedly famous western food stall at the far end of the hawker centre wasn’t open.

The other day someone ordered fish and chips from that famous stall and I was less than impressed with the meagre serving. But we heard the food tasted nice at least. This stall with the attention attracting yellow and green signage is actually no better.

The two slices of pork were thin and probably size of 2 Nokia E51. (Note: the set only comes with one egg. The sunny side up at the edge is from someone else.) In terms of presentation, they’ll definitely score a big fat egg. In terms of taste, o well… The gravy was watery, and I wonder why did it come with two tones. The coleslaw tasted worse than the poorest attempt of a coleslaw served at a particular KFC outlet which sells cold chicken wings. Fries were not crispy and tad plain. Even the ketchup they provide tasted lousy, like some sweet red coloured dye. I can’t even taste the slightest bit of tangy taste.

They didn’t ask what kind of egg I’d like, and I must add that I hate eggs which have googy egg yolks.  The egg yolk wasn’t all googy, and that the only part which the stall redeemed itself. But others might blame them for overcooking the egg then.

Rating: Sighs… Just lick that little thumb of yours….

There used to be a stall in this food court where the current Food Junction at HV is, which sells nice Little Pot Noodles. Now that Food Junction took over, the noodles stall disappeared and in its place is a handmade noodles stall operated by 2 China folks.

Reckon the stall is more known for the knife sliced noodles, but I tried the Ban Mian anyway. Taste of the soup isn’t very salty, as compared to the Ban Mian from many other stalls in Singapore that I’ve tried. Everything’s cooked to perfect timing, so there’s no raw eggs, overcooked veggie, tough well done pork or soggy noodles. Still, somehow it lacks the feel, the oomph to it. But I can’t tell what. Or maybe I find the portion for a $4 bowl tad small?
